Vietnam War Memorial Fund Reaches 75% of Goal
March 28, 2013 –
The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Board of Directors recently announced contributions to their Vietnam War Memorial capital campaign fund. The cities of College Station and Bryan, Brazos County and private citizens have helped the BVVM reach almost 75% of the $150,000 goal. The seventh and largest of war memorials on the Lynn Stuart Pathway military history trail will pay tribute to the men and women who served during this critical time in our nation’s history.
The Vietnam War, sometimes called the Helicopter War, will be represented by “Hot LZ,” a life size bronze replica of a partial Bell H1 “Huey” Helicopter with three soldiers preparing to land on a hot landing zone. The memorial was sculpted by J. Payne Lara, of Navasota.
The Vietnam War Site is recognized by the Department of Defense as a Commemorative Partner in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War in 2015. The site is sponsored by the local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 937.
Your contribution in any amount will be gratefully accepted. Contributions of $25 or more will receive a print of the Vietnam War image above. The Vietnam War Memorial will be constructed as soon as the funds have been collected. Additional information about the gift giving levels can be viewed on our website. Donations by credit card and additional information about gift giving levels may be accessed on the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial website at www.bvvm.org.
Remember: Vietnam Veterans had no welcome home parades and most have never received a simple “Thank You”. This is your opportunity to express your appreciation for their service to our country during that tumultuous time in our nation’s history.
